Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was was raised in Barcelona. Her diverse musical style has earned her the status of "atypical pop star". In the wake of being fascinated by Spanish folk music at the age of 13years old, she pursued a degree in musicology at Catalonia College of Music while playing at music bars and weddings.She finished her studies with honors by virtue of her cover album that she co-produced together with Raul Refree in Los Angeles (2017) and her Baccalaureate-related project El Mal Querer (2018). Blending flamenco and hip hop and pop music, the album spawned "Malamente" (single) as well as "Pienso in tu Mira (single). Both songs became hugely popular and received widespread critical acclaim. [11] Recipient of the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year, and a place in the Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, El Mal Querer started the climb of Rosalia into the international music scene. Rosalia's albums of 2019 "Con Altura" (13) and "Yo x Ti Tu x Mi" (12-13) were pioneers in urban music and achieved international popularity. She introduced reggaeton to a new approach to her third album Motomami (2022) and departed from the modern flamenco sound of the album that preceded it. The album gained worldwide attention for its songs "La Fama" and "Saoko" and was the album that received the highest rating of the year on Metacritic. Rosalia has had ten number one singles from her home country throughout her career. This is the highest number she has ever achieved for local artists. She has also won two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the Year wins) as well as four MTV Video Music Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, three UK Music Video Awards and two Premio Ruido awards, among other awards. Billboard awarded her the Rising Star Award, in 2019, for "changing the music of today's popular music with her distinctive flamenco-infused pop". 18 years ago, she is also the first Latino-singing group to be recognized as the Best New Artist at the Grammys. Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. She was born in a family with no artistic heritage and is the youngest child of Pilar Tobella who runs a small family business that specializes in metalworks. Jose Manuel Vila, her father was born in Cudillero. They divorced in 2019. She has a younger sister Pilar Vila ("born 1989") is her stylist and creative mind. Rosalia became interested in the performing arts as a child in particular after she was introduced to the discography of Camaron de La Isla. At the Taller de Musics, she began her education in music. She completed a six-year course in the academy. She studied at the Raval School, and later transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. Additionally, she performed in a private capacity as a performer at weddings, bars for music and other functions. She was paid "a less than 80 euros or in exchange for a meal". Rosalia was able to meet many underground Spanish artists at the time period such as La Zowi and Yung Beef, Kaydy Case, Hinds, Maria Escarmiento, and Kaydy Cain.
